SARANAC LAKE – Adirondack Health’s 2018 Smooth Strides Runners Clinics are scheduled to begin on Saturday, Feb. 24, offered by the Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine department of Lake Placid.
In addition to the well-known Runners Clinic, new this year are three separate Runners Clinic Exercise sessions. The sessions focus on the best exercises for every runner, regardless of experience level or ability.
The original Runners Clinic is designed to help identify major biomechanical abnormalities and offer suggestions for corrections. Adirondack Health’s team of physical therapists, certified athletic trainers and exercise physiologists are dedicated to helping runners run longer, faster and as pain-free as possible.
Each assessment includes computerized gait analysis utilizing DartFish video software; a biomechanical foot evaluation with shoe recommendation based upon the runner’s foot structure, mileage and previous injuries; a dynamic movement screen analysis to identify dysfunctional movement patterns; a nutritional screen, including body composition and dietary recommendations; and a group physiology discussion concerning guidelines for proper training. These clinics will be offered at AMC – Lake Placid on Saturday, Mar. 10, at 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and on Thursday, Apr. 12,and Thursday, May 10, at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The cost of each clinic is $40, and four spaces are available per time slot.
Runners Clinic Exercise sessions will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, and again at 6 p.m. on both Thursday, May 10 and Thursday, Aug. 9. The cost of these sessions is $15 per person, with a class limit of 10 people per session.
With approximately 40 million runners in the United States, running is a very popular and economical means of exercise. Unfortunately, up to half of those runners will experience pain causing them to reduce or stop their running altogether. Attending a Smooth Strides Runners Clinic will help runners to identify, mitigate and prevent the factors most likely to cause unnecessary pain.
